Book Review: Capture Your Style by Aimee Song

February 27, 2017

Aimee Song released this book late last 2016 and I was available to get a copy after a few months because I didn't actually know where to get it. This book tells you the secrets to taking gorgeous Instagram photos, build your brand and following, and showcase your style in the ultimate guide to the world's fastest growing social media platform.

Last Saturday (Feb 25) was my birthday, I was at the mall with my friend JP and I tried to check the National Bookstore if they have a copy of it. There was one copy left and thought that it was really meant for me. Haha!

As an Instagram addict, I was really skeptical in buying this book and I wasn't able to read a preview of it because bookstores that I went to has no copy of it. I always try to mix filters and different kinds of pictures to create a beautiful Instagram Feed, so following a rule would not really work for me, but I opted to get this book instead because I love how Aimee Song post photos that are so natural not just visually but her captions as well.

I was able to finish this book overnight because there's not much to read in it, it's more of a magazine type which draws me to finish it because there are tons of BEAUTIFUL photos that would really inspire you to work on your feed.

What I expected:
I really thought that Aimee would tell filters that she actually uses on her photos, but she didn't! As an Instagram addict, I would really love to know her filter because her photos are AMAZING.
What it gave me:
To my surprise, I learned a lot of InstaTips from this book. From the apps that she uses, which photos to take and what not to take and how you would want to have your photos straight because it's actually more appealing to the viewers, photo ideas (which is so important because I tend to run out of photos to post on my Instagram especially when I'm busy), avoiding the Insta Cliches-because we all want to be different, right? It's actually inspiring to see where Aimee Song came from small beginnings to great things.
Should you get it?
If you are new to this Instagram World and knows nothing about it and would want to learn more than the basic, then GO buy it. I got it for Php799, kinda pricey for an "Instruction Manual". But this could actually help you create your brand and of course-take great photos from your phone.

But if you already know the tricks on Instagram like me, then I wouldn't suggest buying this book. Try borrowing from someone instead-the book itself is Instagrammable! You could learn a thing or two from this book but other chapters of this book are so basic if you are an Instagram user for a long time.
